What Was Lyndon B Johnson Most Remembered For ?

Lyndon Baines Johnson was credited with being the most important figure for the Civil Rights Movement. Some people in Johnson’s own team thought that he was an opportunist who diverted his attention to Civil Rights issue only when he knew the importance of the Black vote.

However, Johnson always spoke about his ideals of making America as one of the greatest nations and the greatest societies. He gave several speeches about this. The 1964 Civil Rights Act has Johnson’s signature, and also the 1965 Voting Rights Act has his signature. These were considered as his greatest achievements.

Lyndon Johnson started working with the minorities in 1928 when he was working as a school teacher. The school students were mostly Mexican Americans. Johnson always believed that the only way out for minorities was through education. At the time of the Great Depression, Johnson worked as a Director for the National Youth Administration established by Roosevelt. Johnson tried a lot to eradicate unemployment from the black community. But he was only able to do that by 50 percent.

The African American community always found him helpful as a president. However, many claim that he referred to them in a derogatory manner in private. However, Johnson could not do much to help the other minority communities like the Hispanics. There was tremendous pressure from Washington. Many people from Texas called it a publicity stunt when they saw that he was trying to help uplift the African Americans. However, it proved beneficial to Johnson when he won the minority vote, and this naturally shut the rivals up.
