The credit for the origins of Father’s day celebrations goes to Sonara Smart Dodd. Her own mother had expired when Sonara was sixteen years old during child birth. She and her five siblings were brought up single handedly by her father, William Jackson Smart. Her father was a Civil War veteran, and she always wished to honor her father for the hard work he had put in while raising his children.
