Jimmy Carter And Accomplishments

Jimmy Earl Carter was the thirty-ninth president of the United States. He was born on October 1, 1924. He defeated Gerald Ford to become the President from 1977 to 1981. His biggest achievement was winning the Nobel Peace Prize in the Year 2002. Carter also served as the Georgia State Senator and the governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975. Before that he was a peanut farmer and a naval officer in the Navy.

As a president, Carter created new cabinets like the Department of Energy and the Department of Education. Both were the biggest milestones in his career, and the Presidents who succeeded him benefited from his decisions. He also established a national energy policy that would include conservation of energy, and also laid emphasis on price control of oil and new technology. He believed these things should not be used as a luxury item but made accessible to the common man. In foreign affairs and administration, Carter continued with the Panama Canal Treaties and the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks.

He was one of the biggest supporters of human rights. He negotiated the peace treaty between Israel and Egypt in 1979 during his term as a President. He returned the Panama Canal Zone to Panama which earned him a lot of criticism for his decision. During the final years of his administration, there were several economic problems in the country. These plaguing problems like confusion in Iraq and failure to rescue the American hostages from Iran showed up bad in his career chart, and he lost the subsequent elections to Ronald Reagan.
