Mayflower Compact is considered as the basis of most liberal political decisions in the United States of America. It is the first ever known government documentation of majority vote ruling concept. However, when this consensus was signed, the signers did not have that in mind. They did so to serve their own purpose at that point.

Mayflower Compact was formulated on 11November 1620 aboard the Mayflower. Hence, the name was given to this document. At that time, this vessel was carrying one hundred and two people through the waters of the Atlantic Ocean towards land not known to have been explored by people before. The document was first conceptualized and then signed to let the colonist survive during the period. However, not all signed on this treaty. Only forty one of the total boarders of the vessel signed it, hence reflecting a majority vote idea.
The consensus aboard the Mayflower was signed upon believing that this would make them honorable in between man and God and also, in between themselves. Signing of the Mayflower Compact was supposed to seal all the signers with a sense of righteous integrity. Later on, prominent historians like John Adams and others commented that the Mayflower Compact serves as the foundation to the Constitution of the United States, which was written almost 150 years later. The colonists, also referred to as the Pilgrims, reached a place later in the same month, which they named Plymouth, from where the Compact gained popularity and importance.
