Heath Ledger Biography
A rising movie star, Heath Ledger kicked off his career by playing the warrior hero Conor in the TV series Roar. His last critically acclaimed role was the Joker in the Batman movie, The Dark Knight, before his untimely death in 2008. Heath Ledger was born on April 4, 1979, in Perth, Australia.

His interest in acting began while attending the all boys Guilford Grammar School. He started his career performing on stage with the Guildford Theater Company. He appeared in significant roles on Australian television shows and featured as a gay cyclist in the 1996 Sweat series. The following year, he was cast as a medieval Celtic prince in Roar. Although the series was short lived, Heath had begun to build his own fan base.
His first lead role was in the movie 10 Things I Hate About You opposite Julia Stiles in 1999. Declared as a summer hit in the box office, the movie succeeded in introducing Ledger to a new fan following. He also appeared in a prominent role as a feisty son of a fellow Australian Mel Gibson in the Patriot in 2000. He returned to his knightly avatar in A Knight’s Tale in 2001. The 2005 Terry Gilliam film The Brothers Grimm featured Ledger as the fictional character Jacob Grimm.
The same year he co-starred in the western Brokeback Mountain which dealt with homosexuality. The film was directed by Ang Lee. Hollywood and Heath’s fans were shocked when Ledger was found dead in his Manhattan apartment on Tuesday afternoon, 22 January 2008. An autopsy revealed that he had suffered from an accidental overdose of prescribed antidepressants, sleeping pills and painkillers. His last movie was The Dark Knight, a Batman film, where he played the role of the Joker. His role was critically acclaimed by movie buffs and critics.
