Prince William Biography  

Prince Williams Arthur Philip Louis was born on 21 June 1982 at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, in London, after a lengthy labor. At birth the royal baby weight 7lb 1 ½ oz. Prince William is the elder son of Charles, Prince of Wales and the late Diana, Princess of Wales, and the grandson of the current Queen Elizabeth II.

Prince William is second in line of succession to the British throne. Prince William is also a member of British Royal family. On August4, 1982, Prince William was baptized by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Robert Runchie, in the music room at Buckingham Palace. Prince Williams’s first public appearance was on visit to Wales on St David’s Day (1 March), at a service at Llandaff Cathedral at age of 8. In 1995, after spells at Wetherby Prep School in Kensington and Ludgrove, he became the first future monarch to attend Eton College, one of Britain’s most prestigious secondary school. There he excelled in sports, particularly swimming, and settled down to become a serious student. He is one of the top 100 swimmers in England. He also became the President of England’s Football Association.

His parents divorced in 1996, and the following year he showed great strength in coping with the devastating news of his mother’s death in a car crash in Paris. After graduating from Eton with 12 GCSEs and three A levels, William decided to study art and history at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. He enrolled himself simply as “William Wales” thus adopting modern approach to monarchy. After graduation and a work experience of one year Prince joined the royal military academy Sandhurst as an officer cadet. He was commissioned as an army officer in front of Her Majesty the Queen at Sandhurst in December 2006 and joined the household cavalry (Blues and Royals) as a second lieutenant.

On St George’s day (April 23, 2008), the queen appointed Prince William to be a Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter. In his honor many nations released several commemorative stamps, coins and first day covers. Many people feel Prince William has many of the characteristics the world loved in his mother.
