The Cold War started in 1945 as soon as the World War II ended and it began mainly between the erstwhile Soviet Union and the United States of America. It has been termed as the Cold War because none of the countries directly went out attacking each other and they only did it through back door means. It finally ended in 1991 when both the countries came together and called it off in a public conference.

The Cold War saw tensions mount and also become less at various points of time. However, the war between these two nations affected several other nations worldwide. In addition, other nations who were at war started exploiting the sour relationship between the Russians and Americans. Even if a country did not have anything against the Soviet Union, for example, they would ask America for help. Knowing this, the other opposing country would approach the Soviet Union for help and assistance. Both America and Russia would gladly do it just because they are on the opposite sides. The Cold War is today considered as the stupidest war ever in history.
Several events took place during the Cold War like the erection of the Berlin Wall, Korean War, Vietnam War, Cuba missile crisis, Afghanistan and Soviet War and Suez Canal issue. In all of these incidents, the United States and the Soviet Union were on the opposite sides. America started supporting Afghanistan during their war with the Soviet Union. Similarly, all the incidents saw the Americans going into war because the Russians were already helping the opposing side and vice versa.
